Acne is caused by a bacterium known as Propionibacterium acnes. This particular bacterium is present in every single person; however, people who suffer from acne generally have higher number of the bacteria in their follicles. All acne, whether it may be on someones face, shoulders, back, legs, or buttocks, is referred to as a disorder of the pilosebaceous unit.
